The Manchay Oasis Care Center was started in 2003 to help the many desperately poor mothers living in Manchay. Manchay is a desert town of over 120,000 people on the outskirts of Lima where many live in one and two-room cardboard/tin shacks with dirt floors and no electricity or running water. Victims of extreme poverty, little children are often malnourished and often left alone while their single mom tries to earn enough to provide for her family.
The number of needy children coming to the Oasis Center for help continues to grow each year. A large percentage of these kids come for our preschool program where they receive two meals a day, learn important Bible lessons and early childhood skills. The others come either before or after school for our Homework Club and receive a meal, learn important Bible lessons, receive help with their homework and counseling as needed. We also provide basic health care for all of our kids.
Plans include the start of an official government-approved Kindergarten at the Oasis. This will allow us to help kids in the community receive a good, Christian education while continuing to work with the whole family.
